I got to Gurun on the Steam servers by going through the wolf caves -> maze -> desert. It is mostly stocked already, but I made a decent profit selling poisons. For some reason there are very few rats in the maze at the moment, making it pretty easy to get through.

Troll alert
Some think it funny to hang around the thief door and try to block anyone running away. Probably works quite well, so the ability to close the door is useful.
And here is a lonely player:

Bear vs wolf
It turns out that some low levels take their knives to Wodon, even though the quest is really meant for players who can fight satyrs. But it is fun to try to reach the cabin as a low level, it makes a good break from killing rogues. Maybe they should be encouraged with some experience for each early knife they turn in (rather than at 50), or a quest from town to deliver something to Wodon.
Vampire bat, bane of the noobs
The bat cave near the orcs can be a decent area to fight, since it is less crowded than the Rogue's den. I started finding random piles of gold on the floor.
I discovered why. It was a new moon, so the usual black bats had transformed into Vampire Bats, killing multiple noobs in 1-3 hits.
Vampire bats fly anywhere, they have even been found outside the cave. Getting around them requires luck, and use of alternative paths. Me and Baradur made a mad dash for the final gold pile, which allowed us to retire as rich men.
We also met Svalbard, who was completely lost and no idea what to do. He apparently offended Inala, the first quest giver. We told him he could go back and apologize to get the quest.

Aberoth on Steam
Aberoth is coming to Steam this Friday. Simple has announced that new players from Steam will be on a separate realm (though they will one day be linked with the old realm). Many old players will be making alts on the Steam version.
I have added a New Player Survival Guide. There are also now some rabbits to make the site more welcoming.
